Behavior Interventionist

Hello! My name is Erika Simmons, this is my first year at New Prospect! I have been in education for 11 years, teaching kindergarten, third and fifth grades, as well as being in administration. As Behavior Interventionist, my goal is to help students become successful and understand their emotions. I want students to feel validated in their feelings and learn coping skills. I truly believe behaviors are a form of communication, and my passion is figuring out what those behaviors are trying to communicate. In order to be successful, children need to be regulated. I want to help all students learn the skills that are helpful for them!

Outside of school, I am married to my husband Jason, we have 3 kids, Jennifer (19), EJ (14), and Dempsey (10). This is the first year I won’t have one of my boys at school with me! We recently bought a house and moved to Belton where we enjoy playing with our fur babies Zoey (yorkie), and Beamer (mini golden doodle), swimming in our pool, and cooking out. We LOVE Gamecocks football. In my alone time, I enjoy reading, singing, and binging on any crime shows!

I am thrilled to be a part of the New Prospect community, it already feels like family. I can’t wait to partner with families to help all of our students reach their full potential. Thank you for the chance to serve this community and these sweet kiddos.

Thank you!!!
